So I've noticed a definite thinning of my bangs. I've also been bombarded with a smorgasbord of ikumozai advertisements.

Anyone have any advice to share on combating hair loss in Japan? Is propecia easily obtained? Do those pricey concoctions at the drug store do anything?

Looking forward to your thoughts

It's a shame you're not in Korea. They have a cure for everything!

You can't really fight it. If you constantly think and worry about it, the whole inevitable process will seem worse. It's been a decade since I last really had hair and I feel the quicker you accept it the better. I use hair loss as a point of humor and my students seem to get a rise out of it. Own your insecurities, I say!

Get an Indian Head Massage, it's meant to promote hair growth. Also oils like Ylang-Ylang - just don't get drawn into expensive internet rip-off products!
Is it a natural process, or due to stress?

Thanks for the replies. I know that I should come to terms with the eventual onset of male pattern baldness, but I figured it was worth throwing out there to see if anyone had a positive experience with Japanese hair tonic.

The only think I have ever heard that are even remotely useful are the following:

1. Rogaine (but only in some people)

2. Surgery (whereby they remove hair from other parts of your body and re-plant them in your scalp.

Just do what most do, shave it off and grow a goatee.

LOL

I think being bald in Japan is not too bad if you have a sparking personality to offset it. In other words, I seem to run into a higher proportion of baldies in Japan than statistics would suggest (1/10 for men), some of them young, (under 30) and they seem to do okay.

It's only hair right? Of course easy for me to say, my dad also still has a full head.

If you go to Shanghai, you can get a hair transplant done for about 1,500 bucks and it's professionally done. I did it about 4 years ago and I don't regret it one bit.

Not sure about hair loss treatment in particular, but International Pharmacy has pretty much everything and Ive used them to purchase medication that is hard to get in Japan.
