So i have decided to go to Vietnam in June and take a CELTA course from ILA.
My question is should i take a deal from them and work for 1 year? Since i do not have any experience in teaching. It would greatly improve my resume and experience.
Also i have been looking around for school in Vietnam to teach after my CELTA certification. So far i do not know where you guys go to look for them. Do i just walk in in a University in Vietnam and apply for a job? Or do i look at newspaper to find more information?

ILA is a good place to start if you don't have experience in my opinion. They have good resources and offer workshops

I was going to work there years ago, but found something better.

As for universities, they might hire you, but they might want someone with experience.

which may or may not be the case. You should read the threads on the work permit and visa issues, as the scene is in flux, some might say turmoil. I have a rather conservative view on being here, which is, be prepared to live here without the need for an in country income. It does not cost much to have a nice life here, but I think it is better not to just make the assumption you will find employment. While hopefully it is true, it is not a cinch. You have a lot more freedom and choices if you do not HAVE to work.

The visa nightmare is.....a nightmare.

I do NOT know 1 single person, who has a work permit.

A couple of schools are telling teachers that they have a work permit, but the school is holding it.

Not true.

The work permit should be kept in your passport, and your documents (copies) are on file at your school when DOLISA officials visit to check.

Nobody knows what will happen. Not the administrators, directors, teachers, and even the visa agents and government officials.

"Nobody knows."

This, should be the official motto, here.

"Nobody knows."

Hi Magic8ball

I'm a teacher with a CELTA and a degree.

I have a work permit and yes I have it personally.

It IS possible to get one if you follow the process through.

What happens when you get one?

Answer: you get a 1 year multi entry VISA for $110.

ILA gets the work permit for full timers. They keep all of the documents and use the WP to their advantage. If you want a full time position at ILA and a visa then you can go there. You will have to deal with certain things, however.

I used to work for ILA. They didn't keep my docs and I got my wp and 1 yr multi entry visa. Have you actually worked there Magic, or just regurgitating stuff you've heard from others who haven't worked there?
