|

Hi all,
I have a question about what kind of visa would it be if I got offered a class at a Uni in Germany? I went to see about a job there and from what I want to understand I might get something last minute before the Summer Semester begins. They called again asking about visa info so that they can have any paperwork ready if they do have anything ready.
I am under my husband's visa (he is not an EU citizen) and it states in my passport:
Beschaeftigung nur mit Erlaubnis der Auslaenderbehoerde. Erlischt mit Beendigung des Aufenthaltes des Ehegatten.
This seems to have confused both employers that I have seen. Therefore it has left me super confused, lol.
Would getting a job at a university mean it would be a freelance visa? There is no talk of a contract. Would it also mean that I would have to pay the same taxes as working at a Berlitz type of school? Or would it be different because a Uni is like a civil job?
Thanks for any help and sorry I seem so clueless. I am getting kind of depressed as I had a well-paying job at a Uni in Sydney and I just feel like all that work I did on my MA was for nothing. |

Seems you can't work without getting some sort of permit from the Auslnderamt. Penalties for doing so are quite severe, this is regrdless of freelance or other work. |

Yes, I know I need a visa. I have permission to work but I need the job and then I go to the Amt.
I'm wondering if working at a Uni will give me a freelance visa and will I then have to pay taxes or because it is a civil type of job does that change the tax situation. |

You will need more than one "customer" and will probably have to have a basic business plan and proof that you will earn enough. If they are satisfied that this is the case you will get a freelance visa a few weeks later |

and regarding taxes, you will only have to pay if you earn a certain amount, but working for teh public sector doesn't change anything I don't think! |
