GEOS here in Melbourne has just shut down.
An isolated incident or a sign of things to come.

I was around when Nova crashed, back in 2007. It was messy for everybody-teachers and students. But, generally, teachers that really wanted to stay in Japan found other jobs and students who really wanted to study English found other schools.

A lot of the local mom-and-pop eikaiwa outfits caught the crumbs falling from Nova. This will probably also happen if/when GEOS dies.

What's the economic/scientific term? Law of Averages? Small things get bigger, big things get smaller.

So, the new news is that Geos in Turkey is shutting down. At least one teacher (possibly many?) haven't been paid since October, the company is in trouble with the authorities for not paying local taxes and has been asking headquarters in Japan for help (in complete contrast to company claims that Geos schools outside of Japan have nothing to do with Geos in Japan). (from a leaked internal email. This is verified)

Also: Geos New Zealand closed down this week. (from Letsjapan.org and is heresay)

That is 3 now (counting Turkey)

Even more: There are now reports of Geos' Japanese teachers rent now being paid. (from letsjapan.org and is heresay)

It's like watching dominoes fall down. Deja vu of NOVA.

I think it's getting obvious that Geos Japan is getting rid of its international schools in a last ditch effort to keep itself afloat here in Japan. But, if the reports of some teachers' rent not being paid are true... then that strategy is working about as well as it did for NOVA.

How are AEON, ECC and Shane doing? I see adverts for those places on the trains still.
