I was just curious if anyone has worked for, works for, or dealt with Matsusho Co.? I'm currently waiting for placement and just curious to know what people think of them. I turned down two other offers so I'm hoping I went with the right choice.

I've been told they are waiting on confirmation from several boards of education in the Kanto region. Has anyone else been told this news?

Should I check gaijinpot's forums about Matsusho since they posted a few jobs on the site? I'd rather avoid gaijinpot's forums as they seem to be full of trolls and the people with real helpful answers are all here.

I don't recall ever seeing this company advertise anything. I definitely would've applied had I seen it.

I've googled this, but came up with nothing for what you were asking.

Any update on this company? I was just accepted by them as well. I have one more interview with another company coming up soon (which I am leaning more to), but it would still be nice to hear some updated information on this one just in case this other company doesn't accept me.

Not much to update on. I have kept in contact with the company and they said my visa is being processed and the BoE has my information. If that sounds vague that's exactly how I feel about it.

Well, now I need some different type of advice. The company has informed me that two of the three BoEs declined to proceed with their proposals. They still hope to hear back from the final BoE by the end of the week.
However, they have offered to process my visa for me even if they can't find me a job. I assume that is very uncharacteristic of an ALT recruiter. The way I've been treated by Matsusho I feel bad for them as I'm sure they were undercut by less scrupulous recruiters.
My new questions become should I take them up on the offer (which I know is great) in the hope that I can use it find a new job that requires the applicant already has a visa? Is it too late find that type of position? And with a visa would I need to be living (or visiting) in Japan to prove it to the new employer or is there a way they can look that up without me being there in person?

Matsusho kept pushing me to get a working holiday visa. I don't know if you can get that in your home country or not. I decided to decline their offer because I found their process (or lack there of - for me at least) to be very unhelpful, uninformative and their contract outline (after 3 email requests for it) to be very vague. My fiance (Japanese citizen, currently living in Japan) wasn't satisfied with their contract outline. But there were other reasons why I declined their offer, and those reasons were unrelated to the company.

Matsusho might be a very new company, and that's why there's not a lot of information on them and why they seems so.... disorganized, vague, and unhelpful.

If you're dead-set on teaching in Japan soon, you might have better luck going to Japan and apply around yourself. Sorry I don't have any other advice to give you. I'm a newbie at this too.

But seems that if the poster there already has a visa, then that person can go on and apply to jobs where a Visa is already required. If in the situation, I'd go for it, personally.

Take the visa. I can't see that you have anything to lose from the situation. It will give you a big advantage over a lot of other applicants as you'll be able to legally start work the moment you step off the plane.

I can't imagine they'll be willing to sponsor a visa for you if you aren't going to be working for them, but if so, go for it. . .

Thanks for the replies. I went for the offer since it is unimaginable that they would actually follow through. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

@CanadianGirl21: No option for working holiday visa in the USA. I didn't have an issue with the contract outline being vague because as I understand it they can't really give you anything concrete until the BoE accepts their proposal. I'm sure the bigger companies like Interac can because they work in bulk. Good luck to you however you go about it. If I get the visa without a contract I'm definitely going to keep trying with different companies.

Well, the visa is in the mail. Or, at least, the paperwork to take to the consulate is coming. I've read through the forums and I've come across a new question or two. The paperwork is for a specialist in humanities/international relations visa. Reading Glenski's many posts I've seen that the specialist visa if for eikaiwa teachers only.
How were they planning to hire me as an ALT if I was going to have that type of visa? Does this mean I can only apply for jobs at eikaiwas as well?

Matsusho Co actually came through with their promise of at least getting me a working visa. I just got it yesterday and its for one year. My situation is similar to the above postings. They said 2 of the 3 BOEs denied my application and the last BOE also turned it down. Since they actually gave me a job offer since December 2009 and failed to come thru, they processed my working visa.

My question is I'm a U.S. passport holder currently in China. How can I apply for a dependent visa for my wife here in Guangzhou Japan Embassy?
