I worked teaching English in Mexico for 20 months, and have since returned home to Ireland. A job I'm applying for at the moment is insisting I get Police Clearance from Mexico to say I've no convictions, etc (which I don't!). Any idea how to go about getting this? |

There are some companies that offer this service. Here's one of them-

BE CAREFUL.
Your company abroad obviously doesn't understand the system (or lack thereof) in Mexico. For starters if you had a criminal conviction you would either still be in jail and/or you would have been deported! Those records aren't necessarily computerized in organized systems that speak to each other, so that's a stretch. I strongly suggest you do not send money to a company claiming to be able to produce documentation of this sort. Read someone's experience:

If I can help with further suggestions, please send me a PM, however time is of the essence for you, I'm sure. |

Samantha, this is the company that my university recommended that we use. I didn't use it, because it was expensive and- because I was here- I could do the legwork myself to get the "Carta de no Antecedentes Penales".
It appears there was a complaint made against that company on the internet: always interesting to know about, and can provide food for thought when making a decision about using a service.
If you know something particularly useful about how this man can get this documentation if his employer continues to insist on it, though he is in Ireland, why not share it with the forum, as it could be useful to someone else, as well. |

In my state you present yourself at the Procuradora de Justicia del Estado with a lot of personal identification and fill out a form requesting a Carta de no Antecedentes Penales. It's not expensive, at just 115 pesos.
Problem for this man is that he's not here to do it. It will be instructive to see if the Mexican Embassy in Ireland can facilitate this: seems like they should be able to, if they're willing to. |

Thanks so much for all your advice!
I'm in the process of trying to attain the "carta de ...", will post an update when I know exactly what's going on.
Basically though, from my investigations so far, it seems more than a bit messy, and I would advise anyone who might need this, to try to get it or apply for it just before you leave Mexico. Too late for me though! |
