| I am planning on teaching English in Asia and am in the process of looking for a job. Can you advise me on what the most important things I need to know - such as what to look for in a contract. How to figure out the cost of living, how much money I should have with me when I first go over, etc. Thanks for your input! |

What you need to know:
1. Asia is huge, and the many countries have different things you need to know. If you could at least pin down a handful of locations, that would help. Otherwise, what someone writes about Japan will be different in Cambodia, China, and Korea.
2. Once you've chosen countries to investigate, go to their respective country forums here and ask the questions you seek. Some may have FAQs at the top of the forums.
3. Decide more precise questions than you have listed above. A blanket question like what you have written is hard to answer, even for one country sometimes. To do that, you may have to provide more info like whether you can come to the country to job hunt (or not), what your background/experience is (so we know what sort of jobs you are eligible to pursue), whether you want to live in a rural or urban setting, what your tolerance is for certain climates, etc.
4. Look at this forum, whether page by page or with the search function. 5. Perhaps you should also consider editing the subject line of your thread here. You don't say anything about Asia in it, and that may detract from getting the responses you desire. |

| There are jobs for new teachers advertised at the moment on this site in Mongolia; I don't know how good they are. It is in Asia and I guess you could try to get visitor's visas for Russia and China while you're at it to try to really enjoy your experience. |
