Has anybody got any experience with the whole police clearance process in Canada.

Do you have to do it throught the finger print process, or can you just get it at the local police station?

The finger print process takes in excess of 120 days... and is sent to Ottawa.

Please, I am hoping to accept a job soon, and need some help.

After I get it, what is the process? Forign Affairs, and then teh Emabssy in DC?

Thanks, Jen

If you need a basic police clearance in Canada, you go to your local RCMP detachment or municipal station - where you reside - and fill out the basic forms. It costs about $60 (or free, if you are a volunteer) and generally takes one-two weeks to come back.

It is just a basic CPIC check. A CPIC check is any current charges pending or other information (ie. you are a sex offender), probation, or parole. The second component to the CPIC check is your previous criminal record (which is either negative or includes previous convictions, including under-18 convictions).

Either way, there is no fingerprint involved in a basic clearance.

I've only had fingerprints taken once, and that was when I actually started working for the RCMP. Fingerprints are generally only taken for either employment purposes related to working in policing or other government agencies that require a higher-level clearance (ie an embassy), or if you are under arrest Laughing

I'm confused though, Jen_USA. Are you an American looking for work in Qatar? Why do you need a police clearance process in Canada if you are in the US and going to Qatar?

many places of employment in Qatar (such as QU) require a police clearance from the home country before they proceed with the hiring process. it's just routine.

If you are a Canadian working in the US you need a police clearance certificate from the US. I came from a third country - they didn't need one from my home country, they wanted one from where I was living.

I imagine they would want a State level cert?
