I just accepted a job in Oman and tried contacting one of the teachers through the uni website but for three days now it has been coming back to my gmail account. Is the internet connection there reliable? Is this a scam?
Anyone has problems contacting a uni's email?

Is what a scam?

What university?

Any internet system can go down... or that teacher may no longer be there.

I asked that because after the interview I couldn't get in contact with the woman who interviewed my via her uni email. Also, they didn't ask me for my uni transcripts or medical tests. Plus my flight arrives at midnight. Is that all normal? I am so accustomed to having to do soooooo much before I get the job. Is Oman THAT different?

I know it's TATI, but sounds like Majali. Once you get there you may have to straighten out the mess on your own dime. So maybe you get sent to Salalah and after a few months you are ordered to Muscat to have your degrees authenticated or something. The upside with this kind of sloppy recruiting is that some people get hired without really being qualified.

I can tell you that the flight arriving at midnight is the usual. Most of the arrivals from NA or Europe seem to arrive in the middle of the night. Don't worry about that part...

And any place can have internet go down. If you look at the thread on OTC, you will see that they were without phones or internet for a week because of nearby road construction completely cutting them off.

But your details do sound like it is one of the recruiters... normally degrees are authenticated by you before arrival... but most places do not require medical tests until after you arrive.

Thanks. That makes me feel better about the flight. I was surprised by the lack of preparation I had to do considering that an agency I used to get a job in Saudi Arabia required and EXTENSIVE and exhaustive medical report including being tested for CHOLERA--which I had to pay for with no American insurance. Who in NA has cholera? Plus I had to get a copy of the doctor's license plus THREE hand-written Originals of the doctor's report, plus I had to put out lots more money for the visa preparation and pay $120.00 to their travel agency for processing fees. . . All this for a 3000. a month uni job.

So having such an easy time made me think that something may be wrong with this picture.

No... mostly that shows the idiotic requirements of Saudi Arabia, which is the irritating exception to every Gulf rule. Laughing

Now you are entering the zone of the shady Oman recruiters... be sure to have low expectations of management and conditions after you arrive. Take lots of patience and a sense of humor if you decide to take the leap.
