Hello from Thailand,
I've just completed my 5th term ( 2.5 years) teaching English at the university level in Thailand. Now I'm contemplating getting some experience in another SE Asian country, and considering Indonesia. As a comparison, I've averaged about 1,300 USD/month over the 2.5 years. I have an undergraduate degree in business and currently working on my MA Tesol.
I seek your advice. Do you think I could find a decent position in Indonesia that would allow me to continue working with university students, and and pay a comparable salary? I'm not sure how the cost of living compares.
In return for this advice, I'm more than happy to share with you my Thailand working experiences.
Thanks in advance! |

In Indonesia there are very few university jobs for FTs. Some wealthier private universities employ the odd farang. State universities tend to rely on exchange teaching fellow programmes that are heavily subsidised by foreign governments (in particular the US State Dept).
You can easily match the kind of salary you are used to at National Plus high schools here but the students will be in the 16-18 age range. |

Thank you malu,
I appreciate your comments. May I ask how you are involved with TEFL in Indonesia? |

Very loosely these days! I teach science in English for a Nat Plus school. |
