Hello,
My wife and I have been considering a move to the UAE for a few months. We've been researching life there and the ESL teaching opportunities, digging through posts here and on other forums, and looking through job postings at the various universities (-we are both MA holders, TEFL certs., 9 years experience in 5 countries). Decided a few weeks ago to apply and see who responds.
Have been fine-tuning CVs and crafting applicable cover letters. Got started this weekend on getting them sent out to the many job postings we saw just a couple of weeks ago and now not a one (ok... one, at HCT) to be found!
Did we miss some golden window of openings!? I know that August is the start date for almost everywhere. And I know that the last month or two is when Universities started posting for this date... but have they filled them all already?
If this is the case, is it alright to send CV and letter to dept. heads not in response to a particular posting (in hopes someone drops out, or they drop someone)? Or will this annoy them? (I am asking in regards to the protocol in the region, and of those typically heading the depts.)
Thanks for any advice or insights. |

All of the tertiary employers who require MAs are in the midst of (or just finished) interviewing at TESOLArabia and next they will be off to TESOL in Boston. This is the peak of the hiring season. Most of the universities do online apps now. Will they not accept apps except for specific openings? I would watch the TESOL site.

TESOL Arabia is a job fair only it is NOT the end of recruitment for those companies/institutions so go to the tesol arabia website, click on conference, then job fair then candidates and you will see a whole list of employers looking for applications. Apply direct they are still open.
Good luck.

Bingo! Thanks Tom. The TESOL site features posts for most of the places I've been looking at.
I saw these vary same posts on the universities' own websites, just a few weeks ago, and was under the impression that these places would not post on external sites. Odd to me that they have removed the posts from their own sites. Again, thanks for the tip on that TESOL site. Greatly appreciated.
VS, thanks as always for the quick and helpful post. What I meant by applying to no specific posting was sending in an unsolicited CV and letter, with no job post reference number. I know that here in Canada (Vancouver), sending an unsolicited application to a dept results in an email directing you to consult their job postings and apply when appropriate positions become available.
There are still a couple of unis I am interested in that don't have postings on TESOL. So I still would like to know if anyone can advise whether unsolicited applications are generally welcomed or not.
Thanks all. |

Thank you Asda. There are a number of faculty jobs in the Ajman University of Science and Technology. How's is it like working for AUST? Like the work environment, housing, remuneration and living in Ajman generally? Thanks. |
