Has anyone worked in Shinas? Visited?
I'm considering a job there as well as a few other locations and would love to hear from anyone who has worked there.
I'm curious about the administration and working conditions. Any infor of course would be interesting. You can PM me if it's personal stuff!
thanks |

Apparently you hit "new topic" instead of "post reply" ... Why not repost whatever it was you said here, so that it comes up in a search for the next people.

It's not a bad gig if you are mal-nourished, homeless, or mentally ill. |

Two years ago I attended a conference at Musannah College of Applied Science. It was organsed by the Ministry of Manpower.
One of the workshops was run by a woman who was working at the Shinas College of Applied science. Her workshop was excellent, and she herself was in no way malnourished, homeless or mentally ill.
Like a lot of the smallish towns along the Batinah Coast, Shinas is what you make of it. It is a long way from Muscat, but it's close to Sohar, Fujairah in the UAE, and it gives you a choice of airports - Muscat/Sharjah/Dubai.
You could do a lot worse. |

From looking at a map, Auschwitz looked like a decent gig.
Shinas College of Applied Sciences doesn't exist.

From these forums it appears there are only about 3-4 colleges worth applying to for teaching. I've searched 5 schools on here which I had thought about applying to for a teaching job and so many have such negative reports about them. It's a wonder Oman has any teachers at all especially since the "recruiters" have moved into the hiring process.
I'm 80 % sure I'm going to accept a job offer (because I want to work this spring) at one of the two schools that have offered. I may be making a mistake and in a few months be yet another one writing on here with an report about the situation. I will go with a optimistic hope and with eagerness to do well. Decision making time is drawing nearer. |
