It's a small place and thus far we haven't had anyone on here who has had experience there. My knowledge is rather limited, but I have a close friend who teaches there and likes it. I know that the person who is managing the EFL department is very professional and knows her stuff.

I would recommend it... though I expect that the money isn't grand. Laughing

I was there for a short time some years ago and I know people who have been there for years. I know others who left at the end of the first contract. There have been several management changes since I left.

The only thing that I can say for certain is that the Dean is a nice guy who is very professional and does his best for his staff.

Thanx SW for the info. I assume it must be European-run as I see from the website that the Dean is from Austria. VS mentioned the salary is not spectacular, any further info on that? Housing included?

Cheers

The salary comment was merely a generalization about Oman salaries. These small private colleges don't have the money for high salaries, so it will probably be less than the Ministry jobs.

Staff are ministry sponsored - don't know about housing as I was working for a sub-contractor.

So. in the past they didn't direct hire? It seems that they are direct hiring now since it was their ad that ran here, not a recruiter. My friend who works there was direct hired.

I have an interview with this school this week. Does the OP or anyone else have any more up to date info about the school?

Also, I thought it was strange that they didn't get back to me for a month after I sent my application. Is this normal for Oman?

Buffalo Boy,

A month isn't a particularly long time to wait for a reply.

Remember, among other things, that the Omani weekends are Thursday-Friday.

All I can tell you about the College of Tourism is that it is pretty central by Muscat standards. It is almost directly opposite the International Airport, and tucked away behind the Golden Tulip Hotel that is next to the Oman Exhibition Centre.

I believe that one of my current colleagues worked there, and liked it. She lived in Al Khod, and found that travelling in was no great hassle.

If you have a close friend who teaches there, why not offer some useful and specific information, like teaching hours and conditions, office hours and conditions, housing prices and options, take home pay after expenses, etc? If it's a close friend, this kind of info should be easy to get. Why not offer something tangible for teachers in the trenches looking for solid information from posters who are supposedly "in the know"?
