I would head to the nearest shrine, not temple. I would take a good look around...absorb the nothingness of it all. I would then think a bit about how I had too much stuff and that I should give most of it away. I would be inspired to hastily undo my watch and let it fall to the ground there, littering that sacred space. After that, pull out my cell phone. You guessed it, let that fall too. I might cry. Dunno...oh yeah! Resolve right there and then that things which do not fit in my pocket are not be taken- you get the picture. I would lighten my load. I would click on a Zero 7 song on YouTube by the name of Throw It All Away. Lastly, I would reach out to absolutely everyone I knew here in this country and express humble thanks for whatever they should be thanked for.
Yep, that's what I would do. |

I'd take a plane somewhere, hire a car and have a blast with the partner of my choice. |

When I left I was finishing my MBA. The last two weeks I was just focusing on finding a job and getting resumes to recruiters, saying what's up to friends before leaving, and then wondering in amazement how I managed to fit what used to be an entire apartment of belongings into less than 2 suitcases.

Easier said than done this time of year, when everyone's either giving or practically giving their stuff away. |

Two weeks before I left Japan the first time I made a mental checklist of things to do and places to go.
In no particular order:
-went to Ise Shrine
-had yakiniku
-ogled HS girls
-went to the ninja house in Iga
-ate at Kappa Sushi
Probably did a few more things, but I can't remember right now. |

Wait a minute, I did that, but you were supposed to cough up,
ahem, some money in return....100,000 yen sounds about right.
Of course, I only gave you my excess baggage, now did that include my wife... , can't remember. Oh well, 100k still sounds about right for peace of mind (mine or yours, not sure). |
