I lived in Dalian for 5 years and while I never worked for them I have been through the campus and met a few of their faculty.
DMU has a very good reputation in Dalian as a professional well-run university. Their standards are high and I have never heard of a complaint from anyone working there. The campus is pretty nice, located in a good section of town near the beach, a few bus stops from downtown.
Without actually having been employed there I would give them a good rating.
Hope this helps. |

With an eye to working at this school, I investigated it. The school, a quasi-military institution, comes well recommended. That fact and the city location make me believe that any conscientious teacher would find employment there quite satisfactory. |

I currently teach at DMU and have pm'ed the OP.
But for others who may be interested I have given the OP a thumbs up recommendation for DMU.
Email me with specific questions if you want. |

It's evident you never worked there, because you must be confusing this University with another, much nicer place, much nearer the beach!
Also, the University you are thinking of probably doesn't drive newly arrived teachers to a filthy apartment block next to a dry refuse-filled riverbed and dump them in an apartment which hasn't been cleaned since the previous tenents left there in a hurry two months earlier. And maybe said University actually arranges some sort of welcome or meeting for the new teachers, instead of leaving them to find out for themselves that they will be teaching Maritime Navigation to classes of 65 or so without a course book. And, perhaps, when the heating fails to come on as promised, or when the sewerage system breaks down, flooding the entrance to the apartment block for the nth time, this University probably has somebody you can contact to let them know about it, instead of having to wait all weekend. Maybe, too, this University has more than three tennis courts for 16,000 people, and a swimming pool you could actually use, as they had promised.
Oh, and as for the bit about well run, I presume you were joking!
Whichever University you were thinking of sounds great, but unless you like being treated like you're of no importance, and working in an environment of total disorganisation, I certainly wouldn't recommend working at Dalian Maritime University! |
