|

I know it is quite cold and was wondering when about does snow actually usually begin falling, about late November? and until about when does it fall, maybe late March? Finally, is Ankara quite a dry climate indeed, or does it get periods of high humidity? |

Ankara has a continental climate, with quite distinct seasons. Overall, the winters are short (late November to early March), but I can remember snow falling on April 23rd, Children's Day festival.
The winters usually start in mid-November and are cold, frosty and snowy, but on average, not more than about 40mm. Generally the daytime temperatures hover just under freezing point for most of December/January/February, so those are the months of pollution in Ankara. In severe winters, the night-time temperatures have plunged as low as -15C. I can remember Eymir Lake near Ankara freezing over so thickly, that mad folk were driving cars over it ! However, it is always dry in Ankara, compared to the high humidity in Istanbul.
Obviously variations can, and do, occur. Ankara is not at its best in winter. April/May are much warmer, then hot and dry in June/July/August. |
