Cleopatra,
Why do you make the rather racist assumption that a ghost writer must be involved?
Did I make any reference to the nationality of the academic involved?
And what is your own publication record? |

Urh...no. KAUST rocks.
Given an alumnus was arrested in the UK for advocating murder (Wikipedia) I'd put this in a Roll category. Though Wikipedia's strength and weakness is evolving citation.
I'm dismayed by visitors to The Kingdom that believe it should adhere to, or "advance" by, the "morays" of western cultures.
This institution was established by Royal decree and if progressiveness is tolerated (KAUST), conservatism can be as well. |

I met some students there in a coffee shop in Riyadh in the mid-nineties. They were students on a scholarship from the Central Asian Republics so they'd gone there to listen to some music because it was barred on campus. One was particularly livid about the affair:"They say music's 'haram', but my father's the Gran Mufti of Kazakhastan and I work as a disc jockey at weekends."
They went to my house to listen to some more music afterwards and then we went to their university. The thing that struck me was the smell of cat piss since it seemed owning a cat was as much de riguer for the future imans as having a long beard.
Two of the students went off to fight the Russians in Chechnya. They're both probably dead, though one was so thin it would have been a miracle the bullets caught him. The other two are presumably doing fine in the religious establishment of their own countries.
Nice people, and not over impressed by their host university, though possibly years in Saudi persuaded them to see the true light :) |

Well Cleo is a big girl and can take care of herself, but I will say your post doesn't make any sense. You also snapped at me in another post that I promptly proved was not only uncalled for but erroneous. |

Ummmm..... I think it is you making assumptions here. If you didn't make any reference to the nationality of the academic involved' then how could my comment have been 'racist'? I can't be 'racist' if I don't know the 'race' of the person I'm talking about, can I? |

in our times, race and nationality have separated, and this separation is causing a lot of trouble for many
but anyways, making assumptions based on nationality (eg 'all italians like pizza') is not racism but discrimination on national basis, while saying that 'all black people are good athletes' is discrimination on racial basis, that is, racism. the word 'nationalism', even though formed the same way, has acquired a different, more specific meaning, tho
not that it bears any remote relevance to the topic of this thread, but i felt smart for a moment and wanted to glow a little, and i also had a bad day and need some attention from other people
can i be forgiven? |
