Hola a todos!
I recently graduated from college, certified K-12 in TESOL and I have a degree in Spanish (which I speak near-fluently). I am looking to teach in a Colegio in Ecuador but not sure where yet, preferably not in Quito. I am particularly interested in Loja, but I guess it all depends on where there are available jobs? Anyways, I have 6 months of student teaching experience and a few months of volunteer work in another spanish speaking country.
Does anyone know of any job opportunities or good schools to try to send my CV to? Also if anyone could let me know what pay/benefits to expect with my qualifications that would be very helpful!!
I did contact [email protected], and they told me about a job in Machala for 630 a month for 25-30 hours/wk with no housing/benefits. Is this a good deal or can I do better?
Would anyone recommend purchasing a 12-ix Visa and just head to Ecuador to search? I am thinking it would be nice to have a contact first!
Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!!

I was hoping someone more knowledgeable would have replied, but I'll add my two-pennorth in the meantime. I'm also going to Ecuador this summer. I'm going to do my CELTA out there and then hopefully find work. I have been told that most of the jobs are (in approximate order) Guayaguil, Quito, Loja, Cuenca and then into smaller towns. And that the minimum you should be earning is $400 a month for a 25 hour week.
I've also been advised to get a 12-1X in advance, that seemed a bit daunting at first, but I think I've got my head round it now, and it's not as complicated as it first seems. If you just want a few months work, you can still get away with going on a regular tourist visa, but the authorities have really clamped down on that and it will very much limit what jobs you can apply for, as well as how long you can stay.
Atlan Training, a user who posts here occasionally, runs the CELTA course I am going to do in Ecuador. I know they have contacts with some employers, so it might be worth dropping him a PM to see if he knows of any vacancies.

Because you are certified, you likely can make around $700 a month or more in some of the bigger cities. You can try Colegio Americano or INter-American in Guayaquil. You can always come down on a 12-IX then change over with the help of the school. In the meantime, you can work legally on the 12_IX and it is possible to change it while in-country. |

Seriously? I had sort of written off Ecuador because it is so costly just to fly there. I figured I could make the same money on MX or Costa Rica but at least get a cheaper flight back to the US now and then. But now you have gotten me interested again.
Can you expand on how you got this figure? Privates lessons, colegios, etc? |

Sorry Higo, that was really badly written, I have edited my original post to clarify it, I meant $400 a month, not a week! Sorry if I got your hopes up. |
