Sorry, this isnt AA rleated, I have a BA and an online TEFL.

If I want to go to Taiwan and job hunt (I have been teaching in China for some time now), will I need to get my degree sent to me before I go?

I feel safe getting it delivered here through a private shipping company, but iffy about carrying it in my pack around Taiwan for a month.

I've never lost a degree (or had one stolen), and don't know what it takes to get it replaced.

I have never had a job ask me for an original copy, and I was always worried about traveling with it, as I had my passport stolen once, and my bag stolen twice.

Yes.

Usually diplomas are about 12"X12", so carrying them around should be no big deal.

I ordered a new one from my school for 26 dollars. Just contact your school registrar's office if you ever lose one.

Your school in China didn't ask for your original? They will here.

I've never been asked to produce my original and have always just used a high quality scanned image. Never, ever been a problem.

I have been asked to submit the original.

This may be an AA-related thing (transcripts aren't required for a BA but are required for an AA). However, I think it's safest to have your original or at least have a relative who can send it quickly if necessary.

I don't think anyone in Taiwan will steal it. I think that theft is much less of a problem in Taiwan than it is in China or whatever other developing continental Asian country through which you might have traveled (I'm a veteran of having money and a USB drive stolen in Zhongguo Dalu). As long as you generally keep your degree at home, I think you'll be fine.

Thanks. My concern of it being stolen was that if my bag or sidebag got stolen with it in it..I would be bummed.

I have had bags stolen in China.

Theft is Taiwan is like 1/1,000,000th of what it is in China.

However, in mainland China, you don't have to worry about garbage disposal -- just put all your trash in a bag, turn around, turn around so you aren't facing the bag, wait five seconds, and then turn back around. The bag of trash will be mysteriously gone!
