Scot... so glad that you finally found what we have all lost over the years.

I've always thought of Oman as a great place to end your career. That last job before retirement where you can relax a bit, enjoy the job (if it's the right one, of course), gather up one's lost marbles, and still add a bit more cash to the retirement kitty.

I don't think it will be the end of my career.
I think of Oman as detox from Saudi Arabia.
An upper colonic, if you will.
Clean out all of the crap and then move on.
I'm thinking of Southeast Asia as my next move. In a few years, of course.
And, as I have noted here before, I make as much here, with the addition of a little overtime, as I did in Saudia.
There actually is a lower cost of living (especially for women, who don't have to hire drivers here). My house is bigger here, and my electric bills are much smaller. Local food is good and cheap.
I'm happy here in Oman, if Saudi makes you happy, great. If it makes you miserable but richer, it is also your choice. |

'The love of money is the root of all evil' The Bible
The love of alcohol is the root of all evil' The Koran
Many people are in deep doo doo because of one or both of the above
So fair play to you for an emphasis on HAPPINESS which is in short supply worldwide.
A happy Mr K
Time for bed!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend's father has a PhD from Ohio State in Curriculum and Instruction. As an associate professor in Iowa, guess how much he makes... $54k. I make more than him and I'm half his age... and I don't pay taxes... and I get an accommodation allowance... and I get free rides to work in the back of a chicken truck.
You're right, Saudi sucks and it's an insult to work for such a wage (peanuts.) We should go back home and .... wait.... |
Laramie Community College in Wyoming is offering $50-60K to start for an ESL job. I mean, it is what it is. Just how much do you expect to get paid teaching English in an English-speaking country and get to live in your (my) home country? They have to pay what they do in KSA or nobody would come. |

Dear Sheik,
"They have to pay what they do in KSA or nobody would come."
In the main, I agree. However, keeping human nature in all its vagaries in mind, I wouldn't say "nobody." If Saudi paid as little as, say, Thailand or Indonesia, I'll bet there would STILL be at least some who'd come. They might not stay too long, but they'd come.
Regards,
John |
