|

I have worked in Indonesia since early 2007, and have recently noticed some of the schools have lowered their salaries this year.
One example was a school in Kelapa Gading who initially offered 13jt a month, but in a recent advertisement 10jt a month.
Another, an Australian organization that offered 8.5jt a month in Central Jakarta- the same as an average teachers salary 12 years ago.
Considering, many ESL jobs are in more exclusive suburbs, which themselves have a much higher living cost then average areas in Jakarta.
I am just wondering whether, teachers are managing to survive on such a low salary. |

I can't answer you question directly as I have only been here a year. I can't put it in perspective as you did.
However, the job market is flooded as so many people are leaving the US/UK because of the economies there. There are many potential teachers and only so many jobs.
I look forward to hearing other replies. |

Language mill salaries do seem to have dropped in places. Recently someone posted about 6.5mill being offered in Bekasi (twin town Chernobyl). I was astonished.
In grade schools (nat plus and intl) salaries have mostly kept pace with inflation except for the very top end of the market where salaries are paid in USD which now has a reduced Rupiah value. |
