Forgive me if I've misspelled anything.
I'm looking to find out how long each course is, and if there are any in Colorado.
Why might one be preferred over another? In other words, which one would you recommend and why?
How do the degrees/certificates compare?

Cheryl

CELTA, SIT, and Trinity are basically equal. Each lasts about one month, and are very intensive. You can google whether any are available in Colorado.

They're similar but CELTA has the most kudos.

Yup. I see CELTA referenced the most...even in the states, I've found language schools advertising jobs for CELTA or 1-year experience.

FYI where I am (NYC) you can take the CELTA part-time over 4 months, which I would recommend, unless you have nothing else to do...the 1-monthers looked pretty blasted by the end of the course.

These are brand name entry-level courses. Think of it as a comparison of a brand name over-the-counter medication with a drugstore brand of the same medication. In any event, the minimum standard is 100-120 course hours and at least six hours of supervised teaching practice with real ESL students (which essentially leaves out courses like Oxford Seminars and i-to-i).

However, these one-month entry-level courses don't even remotely compare to a graduate certificate or master's degree in TESOL.

What is your goal? To dabble a little in TEFL before going on to a "real" job (some people do have the attitude that TEFL is not a real job and that EFL/ESL teachers are not real teachers)? A career in teaching English to speakers of other languages? Do you want to teach adults or children?
