Hi, I am married to a Japanese citizen and want to get a spouse visa so i can stay here in Japan. My criminal background is from when i was young and having to much fun. I was drunk and fighting but mostly drunk. With the new laws out im not sure if i didnt tell them about my past if it would still get overlooked. My wife would not lie anyways. Does anyone know about this stuff?

Drunk and disorderly is probably not enough to be concerned about for that visa. How long ago was that, anyway?

there was assault and disorderly but everything has been over 10 years ago. I have 2 felonies from the assaults. Dont know if that will be a problem or not.

I wonder about felony convictions. I have been arrested a number of times myself. Possesion of a deadly weapon (baseball bat), drinking in public, etc. I got a visa anyway.

Felonies are usually the problem here. I think you can understand why. It'll be up to the employer and immigration to consider whether you are suitable after all this time.

I am hoping they will look at this as a good thing. Ive been in no kind of trouble in 10 years. I lived in a small town where there is not much to do and when you fight with your brother they take you to jail. They have a sane for my town. Come on vacation and leave on probation. Lol. Not funny but it fits the profile. I saw in another post here that if you didnt tell them about your past that they would never find out. Any body know about that, if it is still the same way today?

Can you be a little more specific? Its sometimes hard to keep up. No that they wont check or no something else? Thanks. And thanks to everyone that posts. All my fighting was with my older brother when we were drunk back in our party days. Im not a bad person. So its not like I went out causing trouble, it just caught up with me.

I think Bread means they won't look at it as a good thing. No way! Shocked If you have been in trouble with the law they won't say "Oh look not for ten yeats he sounds like a good person" they will say, "Oh no, could be trouble!"

That's just my honest opnion. I think you should apply but don't get your hope up too much Confused

I think maybe you don't need ot tell them for a spouse visa but I don't know because I have never applied for a spouse visa. Confused

Where in USA are you from? Cool
