Hi all,

Can anyone tell me why the EF school in Lampung would offer 1 million rupiah less than the one in Palembang, when they are both on the same island? Are EF salaries regulated by EF or just decided by the particular centre depending on their whims?

Cheers!

EF is a franchise, meaning a city's operations are locally owned, but have the rights to use EF names and materials. The centers must follow guidelines, but are left to their discretion for day-to-day business.

Salaries are determined by each center, i.e. as you put it by their their whims. They must figure how to turn a profit (it is a business after all), what they feel the cost of living is, and what the local population can pay. Also do figure in they must pay visa (KITAS) fees, taxes, insurance and in most cases airfare for an overseas hire.

I suggest you look back at posts on this site's Indonesian branch about the variations between EF franchises. Some EF franchises have good reputations, some not so good. It comes down to the local owner.

Hi Flicka

Palembang is a bigger and more modern city then Lampung (everything is relative Cool ) so the cost of living may be a little different but each school is free to determine their own pay rates.

As I mentioned before, I was impressed with what I saw at Lampung but I can also tell you that Ibu Cisilia, the franchise owner in Palembang, cares passionately about her staff, students and school. She was brilliant to work for, really can't speak too highly of her.

Feel free to PM me if you want more info.

Jo
