Did you try a search? It is quite new and we haven't had any teachers from there show up here yet. The pay is very low based I have heard.

Hello Bubble 81,
Al Zahra College, Muscat, is a women-only college and was founded back in 1999. They are currently only offering $2,000 a month for teachers in the Foundation Program, with an MA and experience, who will teach General English, EAP and either Maths or IT.
Judging by their academic staff list, the vast majority are Arabs. However, word on the ground is that there is nothing particularly to complain about. |

Thanks both of you!! I've looked at the web site and it does look like mostly arab teaching staff - I thought the salary was going to be higher than that though
Do either of you have any recommendations for places with positions available and a higher salary? |

Hello again Bubble81,
If you are still aiming for Oman, your best bet is Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, who are currently recruiting (see tesol.org website).
However, you will need an MA and/or DELTA with experience.
Good luck! |

If you are aiming for the money though, Oman should not be your first choice. Any other Gulf country will offer more than Oman money-wise, with Kuwait and the Emirates second to none. Saudi also pays well [ look up current Qassim Uni or Ha'il Uni ESL adverts for example].
Kuwait is also recruting now, various private unis and colleges there.
Not that I'm recommending Kuwait. I am not for sure. Just to answer your money enquiry it is being mentioned here.

ps. From Al Zahra website one can read many of their faculty come from Iraq. Interesting people to work with, from my Gulf experience. |

Interesting that I was teaching in Muscat at that time ('99-'01) and never heard of them. It must have been a very slow and quiet start.
There are other private colleges that direct hire like University of Nizwa and, of course, SQU. There are also the recruiter placed positions with the MoHE and MoM. (lots of ads for those here on the job ad page.)

Apologies for a slight digression. Has anyone current info. on conditions at SQU? It never seems to be discussed on this board. I'm wondering about a ballpark salary for someone with a CELTA, DELTA, MA TESOL and over 10 years' experience- much of it in the Gulf region. |
