Hey all,
Looking for a job, obviously.
About me
Bachelor of Education
Bachelor of Arts in English/History
7 Years Experience teaching high school kids in Australia
Australian
I've been on the job boards and I'm applying to International schools but I'm starting to think it would help if I was in the country to start with.
Let me know.
Thanks |

Yep it's definitely going to help if you're here but not impossible from Oz. I applied from Oz for plenty of schools and got some vague replies. Got sick of that and just turned up and had a job within two days.
With your quals you shouldn't have any problem so if you're really running away - do it
Good luck |

Hey runningaway,
Your creds look great but I don't see anything about a Teaching Certificate so I'm left to "assume" that you don't have one.
An ESL Teaching Certificate is a definite requirement, any will do BUT the current "popular" one is a CELTA.
Perhaps this'll make the replies become more abundant.
The "true" International Schools will be happy to recruit online with a telephone interview BUT all the rest are happier if you're here already.
Anyway, Good Luck! |

Hi Runningaway, it looks like you are wanting to go down the international school path. In that case, you'd get a better deal by applying from overseas. You can get into international schools once you are in the country, but you get fewer benefits. If you were to go down the English language teaching route, this doesn't matter. Also I've known a few Aussie school teachers who have had problems getting a work permit for teaching English language (not at an international school though) because they had a PGCE so had to get a CELTA as well. Good luck! |

Sorry, I missed the no mention of CLELTA or TESOL. I agree with OMG, you'll probably need this too.
If you're desperate to run... you can get it here |
