PatS
I am 57 years old now and have been living and teaching at this School in China for 7 months. I only actually teach for 10 ours per week, which suits me fine as for the past 25 years I worked in a very stressful office managing 1,000 residential tenants. I was literally "married to the job" and took all the problems home with me at night also.
I earn 3,500 yuan per month, which I find would be PLENTY to live on quite well, even if my partner were here with me - which he is not.
I do spend all my money on the local Orphanage (67 children) but that is a choice that I have made as I cannot see a better way of spending the money. However, you could easily work here, short hours and live well.

Hello:
FYI ... Here's a couple links off the Indonesia board -
Bali International School sites:
http://www.baliinternationalschool.com/
and http://yamp.com/bis/
Here's the website for CEC - they offer positions in several countries.
http://www.trainingcanada.ca/teaching-english-overseas.php
and http://www.cecnetwork.ca/ - main CEC Network website
As you know, California has one of the most stringent teacher certification programs in the States. With your ESL and multicultural background + teaching experience ...
Hope you find what you are looking for. Take the time to look around and ask LOTS of questions, especially if you are considering Korea. All the research will be well worth the effort.
Have fun and good luck!

I am in Pat's same situation. I might add that the college where I earned my credential has just made its credential program a full two-year plan. So if you want to be a teacher in California now, it is a minimum 6 year education for a starting wage of $35,000!
Good luck, Pat. I sent you a PM. Do some research on South Korea, Taiwan, and International Schools.
