As a former employee of AT I would from my own experience advise caution before working for them due to the number of teachers including myself who they have sacked on a whim. From the very first day there, the other teachers were complaining left, right and centre about the way they were, and others had been treated.

The reaon for the sackings seem to be when courses come to an end and if students do not sign up again or there are any complaints from students who are obliged to attend (ATs contracts), then they will just sack you. One of my private female students who wanted to re-sign did not infact due to some argument with one of the Libyan directors, who are Egyptian/Libyan I think, yet I got the blame for the students not re-signing. A lot of private students are recruited at the local souk and the course is not so cheap so it is probably not surprising that students do not always want to sign up again. One complaint apparently came from a student who was a manager for one of ATs contracts; is it not therefore surprising that AT would be worried about losing the contract with them? Yet this student attended ALL of my classes over a 6-week period.

The point is AT seem to get worried, because they are not a big enough company to tell the students that the teacher is fine and if they do not get on with them then TOUGH.

A lot of students were happy with me and my classes and so it was not my fault. I feel let down by this company. They also do not offer medical insurance, they offer 6 weeks holiday but you have to do most of these at Ramadan and they only offer 1500 pounds for 25 hours teaching, which is ok but not enough for Libya really.

All in all I feel really let down by this company and the way they so easily get rid of you on minority student feedback.

I forgot to say that they only offer teachers business visas from Malta which actually state on the visa that you are not supposed to work in the Jamahirya. I was actually working on a tourist visa for over 2 months and was told by immigration at Tripoli airport not to do it again when I left. I also overstayed this visa due to AT.
