I have just been offered a teaching job with CECN. Can anyone tell me about this company? From the research that I have done it seems that current employees are dissatisfied with their company. I have received information that teachers' benefits are not being given and that when they contact the Administration they get no reply. Some even say that there are rumors that the company is in financial trouble. Also I cannot see any reference to holidays in the contract (apart from National holidays). Are there any CECN teachers out there who could help me?

They have no ethics. They are run by a dude in UAE who couldn't care less about Oman. They are shady and have no respect for their employees. You are a number and don't mean anything to them. Their practises are questionable and how they get away with things that are supposedly under the jurisdiction of the Oman Labor Law is a mystery!

Oh, yes CECN will surely rip you off, especially the crook, Fadi (MOD edit), working for them as the "Financial Manager". He does not only deduct half of your salary whenever he wishes, he would not pay you your salary at all if you work for them.

So beware!

Why haven't any of the teachers gone and turned in a complaint to the labor ministry? You are in Muscat, so it should be easier than for teachers out in the boondocks.

Robert,
Did you know that you are paid on the basis of a monthly attendance report submited to Fadi through Haleema. This report is generated by the Director's office at each ELC and is complete with doctors' notes and excused absence notes. If you suspect that some of your doctor's notes were not attached or perhaps some absences should have been excused when they were not you should really talk to Ahmed. If you have submitted all the correct notes and are short in pay then you may have a serious problem at the college level since payroll is determined soley on what is submitted from the Director's office.
Your problem may be larger than you thought.

Just my 2 cents worth, but don't you think these personal details / advice should be communicated through the PM system? If there really is a "Robert" ......

Still, makes for interesting reading.

There are so many 'Roberts'.

Indeed you are correct. It is all about entertainment rather than the resolution of any particular query after all, since the drama is so public. Every Drama must have its protagonist , antagonist, supporting cast and audience if it is to attended. Where else but on the internet can one play out his/her personal drama with the hope of any audience at all, let alone the full cast of actors?

Very interesting as you say. Soon this particular Robert will have faded to the background into the audience of life awaiting his turn to reappear on stage to engage in yet another scene of the drama that can only be his own and of interest essentially only to himself. In the meantime let us make his moment in the spot light a memorable one.

Do you not find the blog/forum fascinating amature theatre?

Well... "robert" is in the screen name, so jdl isn't the one who identified anyone. Laughing One of the reasons that I always tell people that it is best not to have a screen name that outs you to your employers. (or your fellow 'actors' on this 'all the world is a stage' thing.)

But... jdl... rather than making this personal and getting edited by those that can... is CECN any better or worse than the other recruiters? Are they stiffing teachers on their pay?

Is CECN any better or worse than any other contractor? Probably not.

You, however did make a very interesting and important observation in a previous post that the contractor and the college should not be confused as being one and the same and that it is wise, as you advise, to identify with which entity the concern originates. Good sound advice. Perhaps your role in this particular drama could be the 'sage chorus', which is so often present but unattended by the actors, to their peril. But, again, the stuff of drama is often miscommunication, misunderstanding and a flurry of assumption and speculation. As in most tragic drama the protagonist often exhibits a character or behavioural aspect recognized only by the audience which is the catalyst to the tempest. There is a fine line to be drawn between tragedy and farce, however. After all, what is drama but the search for ones role? 'Robert' will certainly learn more about his character as a protagonist; as will we all in our various roles in this particular drama.

Isn't life a grand adventure of self discovery? Or perhaps, "Life is too important to be taken seriously" as suggested by Oscar Wilde.

Well, I certainly hope Robert is not using his real name, although it seems clear that his identity is known. I was thinking more about Fadi, Ahmed and poor Haleema who have been outed as cogs in the wheel of financial bureaucracy at the Colleges!

Where are you Robert? I am waiting to hear about your attendance records !

Ah, a request for additional information to move along a flagging plot. Surely this play can not close in its first week of debut?

Do we have a 'who done it' emerging? Was it Fadi, the money merchant or perhaps Ahmed, the dutiful administrator? No, Haleema, the blamelass clerk or perhaps Robert himself, the originally perceived victim? Is there a surprise suspect yet to be revealed? Will an examination of motive help uncover the true villain?

Do we have a twist of plot evolving and how crucial is Roberts next appearance/post?

(curtain down on Act One)

Jujubes anyone....I hear the chocolate covered ones are delightful.
