Hi,

My first post here after lurking for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping for some advice from experienced teachers. A number of years ago I did a TESOL cert, realised how limited my choices were without a degree, so went straight into a BA without teaching.

Now I'm about to graduate. To get back into the swing of things I'm thinking of doing either CELTA, and then DELTA in a couple of years, or going straight into the MA TESOL at Payap in Thailand. How well accepted is a Thailand MA in the world? I know from reading this forum it isn't acepted in places like Saudi. Is it OK throughout Asia?

While I could just apply for entry level jobs, I want to be competent, well qualified, and not fumble around trying to remember how to teach.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I don't know anything about your MA of choice, so I can't comment. But depending on your long-term career plans, I'd go with the CELTA/DELTA. This will definitely make you a competent teacher. An MA might also, but some of them are not as classroom-oriented as the DELTA.

Why don't you just get a couple of years of experience in Korea or another higher paying country, and then while continuing to work there, do an off-campus degree from a university from Australia?

A masters degree in TESOL from a non-English speaking nation isn't going to be as useful as a masters degree from an English speaking nation.

Thanks for the advice. I want to keep studying to get all my university work out of the way while my study skills are still sharp. Also, I like the idea of having something solid to go on my resume, which looks rather thin at the moment.
