Hi there

I was wondering if for every job u apply for in Japan, do u need to get a new criminal record check even if u had one done for a previous job in Japan and as part of ur visa , or does having a visa and having worked there for a year already mean u dont need to get a crc?

Thanks Laughing

I have lived in Japan for 12 years, worked at many different jobs, and have never once had a criminal record check. It's not necessary as part of the working visa application as far as I know, although some employers may require it.

I presume you're talking about getting a Criminal Records Bureau disclosure. A CRB disclosure is only required if you are working with children or vulnerable adults in the UK. It is not part of the Japanese visa procedure.

When I was interviewed at Saxoncourt (Shane's UK recruiter), the interviewer told me that they intended to start asking for CRB disclosures. It's a very sensible thing to do, but not a legal requirement.

If you're talking about that paperwork nightmare that you need for Korea, it's totally nonexistent here.

Thanks for replies. I was requested by my new employer in Japan for a CRC. I had it done and sent off so all is cool wi that. However I stupidly misplaced my original copy and I was wanting to keep it jus incase I wanted to apply for another job. I hope other employers dont request it, cos it was a nightmare getting it in the first place. Thanks again though Laughing
