I have seached these forums for information to ship stuff home by freight and have found places to ship to everywhere but the US. Does anyone have any places that ships to the US cheap? If not I feel like I should start selling things for my June departure. |

You can also try www.jluggage.com
They don't tell you the by sea prices online unless you fill in a quote request but in the flyer it says that 1 cubic metre weighing upto a ton will cost you 60,000 to San Diego with each additional .1 cubic metre costing 4,200. |

If you've only got a few boxes, see how much your local post office would charge you. When I returned to the U.S. last year, I sent two boxes full of winter/snowboarding stuff home before I got on the plane. I think it cost me around $200. Much easier than trying to lug it all to the airport and I'm not even sure the airlines would allow that much excess baggage even with the extra fees. |

Really? Most airlines I have flown with charge around 2,000 yen per extra kilo. If you have found an airline that charges only 5,000 yen for an extra bag then maybe you should go for it. Keep in mind though that if a flight is full, airlines have the right to refuse to carry excess baggage- I have seen them doing this to people at check-in. They then had to send their extra stuff from the airport post office, which is not the cheapest way. |

Not sure about the US but to Australia I found the Post Office had the best rates. They sell the boxes (not the ones you see on the walls, the larger ones for the purpose of freight are all behind the counter) and have free pick up service from your address. They were much better than any other service we looked at. |

I've heard on this forum that you can't ship boxes by boat TO Japan anymore, but you can ship things from. Does anyone know the law/reason behind this, and if it's true? I just spent around $200 USD getting one 35lb box to Japan, and that was the cheapest I could find. I used Nippon Express. |
