Just a brief shoutout - I've had problems finding ATMs where I can access my money in the UK - pending my gaijin card - but I've had success with Citibank and I'm told Shinsei bank also works.

What kind of uk card are you using? And have you tried JP ATMs yet. That was the only other bank that would allow my father to use his non VISA cards other than HSBC.

Shinsei!!!!

Very Happy

They have excellent service and free online English help. I use them because their debit cards can be used abroad. And free 7-11 atm usage.

However, they aren't so many branches, so thankfully 7-11 is everywhere (where I am at least).

Hope that helps!

Yes, it does. My Shinsei application pack is in the post and my ginkouin is on order. (Not that I need a ginkouin. It's just exciting to be in Japan, y'know?)

I was a bit confused by that for a second, because ginkouin usually means "bank clerk" Very Happy

I'm assuming you mean a name seal- usually in Japan it's called a hanko or inkan, and you're right that you don't need one- I've been here for 12 years and have never bothered with one. Cool If I had one I'd probably lose it...
