I've noticed some ads the site increasingly are advertising for a degree, tesol/esl and in some cases prior experience.

I haven't been here long so I'll ask. Does it seem that requirements are going up?

It seems that VISA requirements are becoming tighter, or at least are being more strictly enforced in more locations.

The standards, which aren't related to these criteria, are not increasing.

I heard from my former boss that since about a year ago, it's getting tough to get around the requirements for a foreign expert certificate. That can be the reason why employers are requiring more in terms of experience, degrees etc.

The edict from the party is that to be granted an FEC the applicant must be educated to degree level (minimum) and have a minimum of two years relevant work experience. More and more provinces are enforcing the new rules.

This means that your boss might be required to invest in a new printer so that your newly acquired MASTERS DEGREE from UCLA will look authentic.
Alternatively you can take a trip to Thailand and pick one up in Kao San Road - Bangkok.
Vietnam is apparently cracking down on "the backpacker types" so maybe China is doing the same. You can't blame any country for trying to do this.
While the Chinese government is working on that perhaps they can close down their illegal schools as well. Those two groups seem to go hand in hand.
