I was thinking the exact same thing myself. Their website is pretty classy and the process for uploading your cv is pretty efficient, but they aren't known to me either.

It is a small university with two buildings (men/women) between 13th and 15th street by the prayer yard of Mussala El Eid. They have a reasonable reputation. Don't know about conditions.

Well, I do not know about the academic conditions in ground in this university, but I know the Vice Chancellor of Al Hosn University, Prof Sabouni. He is an old friend of mine, I worked with him in UAEU when he was a faculty member in the civil engineering department. He is a graduate from a Canadian university, and he is a man with good reputation.

Sounds interesting! Particularly like the fact that the VC has a good reputation.

Does anyone know anything about the work conditions, accommodation, salaries, etc??

Thanks Smile

This place is not a place to go if you are in any way qualified. The pay scale is a disgrace. The atmosphere is toxic. Run, fast in the opposite direction.

Just curious mousette... toxic how? Is the problem the upper management? the department management? the fellow teachers? students and/or parents?

I looked at the website and it lists 3 teachers and one coordinator. Which may explain why we haven't had anyone show up to post. They haven't been around long enough to have much turnover and current teachers would be pretty easily identifiable if they posted. That has to be pretty much the smallest ELI in the UAE...

What credentials are they requiring to earn their minimalist salaries?

their website shows the coordinator only has a bachelor, as well as their long-time instructor, maybe that explains the low salary...

I began when it was a new institution. Basically the management, human resources and VP, at that time tied constantly, about even the most mundane issues. As well, there were faculty working there then who lived for drama and creating trouble for others. I do not know if they are still there, but the behaviour or the entire organisation at the time was shameful. I left after 3 months of being toyed with and 3 weeks of actual employment.

I didn't have any trouble with the students. I am still in the UAE and I enjoy the students.

For me, a lot of the difficulty rested with constant "stories" and "promises" that always turned out to be a "mistake" later. This was constant at that time. I don't know if this has changed.

I made some real nice friends there and remain in contact with them, but interestingly none of them stayed at Al Hosn - I think that indicates a great deal.

There were some problems amongst the faculty. I do not know if these issue remain, but I do know that up until a year ago a friend of mine, and another ESL teacher I met by chance at a workshop, both told me the atmosphere remains toxic.
