****Posted this in the Russia & CIS forum but I wanted to post here also since I am definetly a noob****

Hi,

Ok I think I know the answer to this but I would like some feedback from those with more experience / knowledge.

Is it acceptable for a teacher to work a 48 hour week with anywhere from 40-48 hours being contact hours (private and group lessons) with the other 8 (rarely) being direct one on one consultations with teachers? So what I am describing is 48 for 48 contracted hours is spent actually teaching.......no prep time built into schedule.

Classes are different levels (from beginner to advanced) and they run 1 hour and 20 mins and there are 10 mins in between classes.

Day starts at 9am or 10 am with a 2 hour or 3 hour lunch and these days always runs to 9pm except the day off and a 6th day that is a half day.

I am in the CIS.

Thanks in advance,

DB

Absolutely NOT. Unless they're paying you a double wage.
My god.

I've worked in Russia, and in other situations where we do occasional intensives, but what you describe is far beyond the boundaries of normal teaching work.

No one can focus on students for so many hours, never mind planning lessons!!!

Wow!!! Um, no, that is not acceptable!! Seriously, there are other jobs out there. No need to stay in one that abuses you like that.

Called a meeting with the Director and also pulled the contract out...yeah I am entitled to planning hours, 8 hour days, and a cap on face to face time...she admitted to being in the wrong so my scheduled changed. I have some strong ties to the city I am in (native girlfriend) and I dont want leave but I was ready to.

Thanks again

Half of what you're working would be acceptable. 48 hours is WAY too much

THe schedule you describe is perfectly acceptable. For TWO PEOPLE.

For one teacher to teach close to 50 contacts hours is completely ridiculous.

Best,
Justin
