I am currently working as an ESL teacher in Ecuador and i was curious on any positions that are available. I would prefer not to work in Quito or Guayaquil. |

There are a lot of jobs available through Southern Cross if you have a CELTA. Southern Cross has the contract with the Ministry of Education to retrain all of the public sector teachers in the country. We can't fill all the positions. Send an enquiry through the "apply now" page of website linked above and I'll get back to you. |

Hey Atlan,
If I were to take care of getting a CELTA certificate on my own this summer, would I be able to coordinate with Southern Cross and find work in Ecuador sometime around mid-August/September? I'll have my BA as of June and am thinking of getting certified in San Francisco this summer, although the program offered through Southern Cross looks pretty awesome. Does a CELTA certificate means I'm eligible to apply to work with Southern Cross, or do I have to be an alum of the Ecuador program for the job connection? I'm also just curious what's out there during the S.A. winter in terms of work (6-18 months)? Thanks in advanced.

Hi Don Scott
Sorry for the VERY long turn around. I've been training and not online much lately. I think we made contact outside Dave's but you can always contact Southern Cross about work. It's just that the placement service is only for graduates at Southern Cross. We're adding new agents to the placement service so it will be better than before. |

Hello Atlan,
I recently visited Southern Cross to ask about working there. I was told by a secretary, in Spanish, that Im not eligible because I am from the US and not Britain. Seems a tad discriminatory, care to comment? |

If I were you, I'd talk to the manager, hiring director, or DOS, the secretary might not have the right info. |

Hi Coloradita
It depends on which Southen Cross you are referring to. There is a Southern Cross British Language Centre in Quito and Guayaquil that yes, hires only UK teachers because it's a British language centre and its marketing strategy is to promote British English. However, Southern Cross School in Guayaquil hires teachers from all over the world. Also Southern Cross places trainees from its CELTA course, regardless of nationality, in posts for which we have contractual relationships. Any of those positions that go unfilled are available for certified teachers. Nature Girl is right. Contact John Warren, the director, about employment. You can email him through the website. Good luck! |
