|
|
I will be moving to Indonesia next year to begin my PhD and to live with my Indonesian partner, and I'm hoping to get some teaching work to help cover costs of living. My partner has a contract with an organisation based in Bali and we currently rent a place near his office in Canggu, so I'd ideally like to get work in Bali. If that's next to impossible (as I fear it may be), I'd prefer the eastern islands over Java and Sumatra, as my partner is from the east and I am personally more partial to the eastern islands.
I won't require airfares or accommodation, and my partner earns enough for us both to live fairly comfortably as it is, so I'm not expecting to make big bucks! I don't have a TEFL certification, but I have an advanced BA with Honours (by research), and have taught English on a voluntary basis in Northeast Thailand. I also have a decent command of Bahasa.
Can anybody please advise on the difficulty in finding suitable work in Bali or in the eastern provinces, as well as on the salary I may expect given my qualifications? Also, would I be best to apply on the ground of prior to my arrival in Bali next year? Any other advise would be very much appreciated.
Thanks |

Apply when you're on the ground. By all means, survey the situation & opportunities before you arrive, but my advice - based on your post - would be to hit the ground applying; and to prepare for that, in the meantime.
I don't know what an advanced BA (Hons) by research entails, but you're not likely to make "big bucks" in Indonesia unless it (your degree) involved applied corruption studies. Talk up your voluntary experience; you'll be sure to find something that you like. [/i] |

What I mean is: it's good that you're not expecting to make a lot of money. |
