Hi!
I just have a quick question. How many days do you typically get off for
Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha?
I am just wondering if traveling home for a week might be possible during Eid al Fitr in particular (there's a direct flight for me).
Thanks!

Thanks. That's a good few days.
One more related question for those of you teaching now. Eid is predicted to be on Sept 10th this year, which is early. Are your fall semesters scheduled to start after Eid?
Thanks |

That's great to not have to study or deal with students during Ramadan.

Last semester, I had a student here in the US that was trying to get out of class using Ramadan as an excuse. I said, I am pretty sure the whole point is to feel the suffering whilst engaged in normal, everyday activities. You cannot be excused. Wake up for suhoor, eat and drink your fill, got back to bed and then get to class. He was surprised I had an answer for him. |

I fear that trap's advice is true only in Saudi. In the rest of the Gulf, it completely depends on your employer - public versus private. It can range from 3-10 days depending on the day it starts... and you never know what day that will be because it depends on the sighting of the moon. This matters to us because of trying to make flight reservations.
It will drive you crazy... and I soon stopped trying to go anywhere during the Eids.
BTW... you may be surprised to learn that many (if not most) of us teachers love Ramadhan teaching and will miss it now that it moves back into the summer. The classes are shortened, you start later, and the day is shortened. Once you get past the first few days, the students become used to fasting and almost wake up. Naturally, you can't cover as much as a normal month, but it is a different atmosphere. (Not to mention that the Eids provided nice regular breaks that are hitting at all the wrong times now...)
