MOD EDIT

Been reading some old posts (2008/2009) about non-married couple cohabiting, and having trouble with the police.
Still a problem for a western couple?

Housing for said western couple? for 500 USD a month? Can we get something pretty nice?

Anything we should plan ahead for, bring with us? Anything you wish you'd have brought?

Psyched to be done with Shanghai.... counting the days.

Should be no problem, Depends on landlord. $500-$550 will get you a nice 2 bedroom furnished apt near district 1 (but not in district 1 unless you get very lucky). Look on craigslist vietnam for an idea what you can get. If your boyfriend has big feet bring lots of socks and shoes as it is haed to find for above size 10. Also if you are into home entertainment audio systems bring that as that stuff is very expensive here
