Thanks for the suggestion! It does look like a good program, but I was hoping to find something not intensive--just a few hours a week so that I can work while I do it. Of course, I'd learn more Spanish the other way but I don't think I could keep up that class schedule and actually support myself!

I'd still consider doing it this way and doing this course for 6 weeks before finding work, but it all depends on what kind of hours I can pick up when I'm back in the US (in Germany now) and how long I'd have to stay and work there. So right now I'm not sure which option is best, but if you know of any options for a few classes a week, I'd love to hear about them Smile

Thank you!
If you're not looking for intensive then forget CELTA, Trinity or SIT - or any of the other standard four-week on-site entry-level TEFL certification courses.

If you just want to try out TESL to see if it's something you'd like to do, consider doing a short volunteer stint.

This is the only time I'd suggest i-to-i: http://www.i-to-i.com/

Then there are the ESL summer camps: http://www.kidscamps.com/academics/esl.html

I am looking for intensive when it comes to these things Smile I was just saying that I didn't think keeping up intensive Spanish courses like the ones pointed out (several hours daily) in addition to a teaching schedule would necessarily be feasible.

I'd like to try it out for longer than a few months, because I don't know that these things are really representative of what I'd be doing if I did decide to do this long term. I know I like the basic idea (languages, teaching people), and have a little bit of sort-of related volunteer experience (not running a classroom myself, though), but it's the daily reality of it, more than anything, that I'm trying out. Liking the idea of something doesn't necessarily mean wanting to do it for years on end! That's what I'm hoping to figure out

Just noticed something on the Chile forum regarding the CELTA and age...

A poster there claims you need to be 20 years old.

I've heard this, but my understanding of it is, that Cambridge recommends you be at least 20 years old, but it's up to the individual schools running the course, and many of them will accept you if they think you seem competent but aren't yet 20.

But if I'm wrong, that means waiting a few more months than I'd planned--irritating, but doable. It would depend on where you wanted to do the CELTA, though, I think.
