I will be in Turkey in a few weeks and I have sleep apnea and use a cpap machine. I am coming from the states and want to know what to expect. I am worried about airport security not understanding what this is.
What about the electricity? Is it 220 only? What do you do if you have a state side machine? |

For the electricity, check out http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/details/Electricity.html. You will need an adapter which you can buy in the states at one of those shops that specializes in travel and luggage.
For the machine, can you pack it in a check in suitcase? If you need to carry it on the plane, I suggest you bring along a note from your doctor. Get a translation of the note into Turkish. If you can't find anyone to translate, try this website http://www.stars21.com/translator/english_to_turkish.html. I belive you can type in whole sentences.
As for going through customs, I have done it several times and the security seems pretty lax. I came in with my cat and they didn't even notice I was carrying her. I had all the paperwork though, just in case. If you just walk through the door and look like you know what you're doing, they ignore you. If you stop and look nervous or wait for someone to tell you what to do, they will probably check your luggage.
You may want to go online and find the Turkish consulate closest to you and ask them about this. |
