Hi, I need some advise. My daughter's going to compete in the Turkish Olympiad 2010 and I am planning to travel with her. Her trip is paid for ~ mine is not. I think they will be in Ankara most of the time. It is from May 26 - June 8th. Does any one know of good, safe CHEAP hotels or rooms for rent or CHEAP apartments in or around Ankara? If so - how much? How much $ can a person survive on for food? I need the most economic way possible...I need to know asap because tickets are being made as i type...And if I can't afford it I need to let them know...
Thanks in advance,
NB

I haven't been to Ankara, but I have lived in Istanbul for almost three years. You can eat very cheap here if you want. Don't shop at places like Migros. The cheapest grocery store that I have found is called Bim. The best prices can be found at the open markets and little bufes and restaurants. If I had to, I could eat three meals a day in Istanbul for 10 lira which is about 6.50 USD.

As for hotels, I don't know. I would say that hostels and pensions will be the cheapest. You can check out this website http://turkey.hotels.hu/ankara.en.html. If you have any contacts there, check into doing a home stay with a family that also has a student involved in the same thing. There are short term rentals on www.craigslist.com.tr but I don't know how inexpensive they would be.
