Although the fast-buckery definitely exists, this and TEFLers' negativity stem from the labour market situation, in my opinion. Although there is a demand for native speakers, especially in Eastern Europe and Asia, there are millions of native English speakers. More and more of the native speakers are graduates because of the agenda to put more people through higher education (I can only speak for the UK here, perhaps others could comment on whether or not this true in other English speaking countries). And finally, this is worsened by the recession in the west, with more people wanting to try their hand at TEFL.

All in all, to sum up, there is a plentiful supply of TEFLers, so employers do not have to consider ethics and decency as much as they might have done if the labour market wasn't so favourable to them.

From the teachers' perspective, they have the instances of employer misbehaviour and also the thwarted hope that they would earn something like the salary they would have had at home if the recession didn't exist.

Hiya. How are you? I'm about, job-hunting. The pay is useless here in Minsk, doesn't even pay the rent. Thinking of going somewhere else, maybe back to Siberia, I don't know.

Try the "Kingdom of Humanity". Saudi Arabia awaits you - with tax-free salary and free sandstorms. Lots of free solar energy too.

Two places I don't fancy. I think Astana or somewhere, I don't know.
