Just sort of a general survey, How long has everyone been abroad, and where have you taught?

Since 1998. Czech Rep, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Canada, Russia (on a project basis).

Maybe I should point out that, not being Canadian, teaching there was also 'abroad' for me.

I think I'll be FAR outstripped by many of our regulars here!!

From '95 to '05, a combination of Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand.

From '05 to present (working for the federal government), in the following order:

Slovakia, Japan, Djibouti, Afghanistan, Republic of Georgia

Without a doubt, Korea was the worst and Georgia was the best.

I'm retired now, but spent 1985-2001 overseas in this second career. (16 years) I taught in Egypt, Oman, Kuwait, and the UAE.

Over nine years non-consecutively since '86:
- Eight months in the Netherlands
- Five years in South Korea
- Three years in Hong Kong
- Ten months (so far) in Taiwan

I'm in Taiwan right now, and I'm teaching. BTW, the vast majority of that overseas time was not teaching English.

Hey, pretty good for a 23-year-old.

Wow love reading this! Can I add a question?

Why have you NOT returned to your "home?"

I worked it out that to have the same quality of life as I do now I'd have to make a minimum of 40,000 in the UK so that's a pretty good reason plus the usual reasons of bad weather and the general atmosphere in the UK these days.

I simply have zero interest in living in my home country. That hasn't changed over the past 15 years.

10 years this year, all in Mexico.

Reasons not to go home? Lousy food, lousy weather, rampant mediocrity back home.

11 years: '99-'04 in Turkey, '04 to present in Romania.

I have very little interest in returning to live in the UK. It's a nice country when the sun's out, great for tourism, but I wouldn't want to live there again any time soon due to the high taxes, high cost of living, inaccessable property prices and restrictive laws. Financial I'm much better off abroad too.
