Beware of seemingly cheap houses in Meruya and surrounds until you have checked the flood history. Jakarta has had quite a reprieve from flooding this year but it is just 3 years ago that many districts were under water. |

EF East Jakarta & Bekasi pay 6.3 million including accomodation or 6.6 million without, .
You're joking!
Seconded. Not because of the salary as such, but because of the idea that you can get anywhere to live in Jakarta for 300 thousand. Or maybe I'm wrong. Can you? |
Just to clarify - they pay 6.6 million to all first year starters, regardless of experience or qualifications, and offer no accomodation allowance. However, if you do choose to live in their accomodation then 300,000 is deducted from your salary to pay the maid. So, the 300,000 isn't actually an accomodation allowance - apologies if that wasn't entirely clear in my original post.
[Edited to add:- I have a friend who lives close to their branch on Kali Malang and she pays 500,000 for a kost; I've never seen it but I belive it's fairly basic - no aircon, shared bathroom etc. I'd imagine a decent kost in that area would be at least double that amount although, of course, I stand to be corrected).
Incidentally, I've since learned that TBI Bandung pay approx. 10.5 million to their first year teachers...this is in one of TBI's own branches though (of which I think they have two in the city) and not the franchised branch who may well offer a different salary. |

EF salary in Batam was 6.8jt about a year ago, incl. housing. Salaries at Nat. Plus schools vary, around 8-16jt for new teachers, a LOT more for well-qualified admin positions (paid in $Sing).
By the way, has anyone been hired while still in Indonesia and gotten the "expat local hire" runaround? I'm talking about not paying for flights or housing allowance because you were hired inside the country? |

Yes, that has happened to me a couple of times. Also, my current employer is trying it on as well.
Is there any truth that under manpower law, employers should
provide a ticket to your country of origin on completion of your contact? And on the topic of the manpower laws in Indonesia, can anyone direct me to where I might find out more about them?
Cheers |

I got offered a local hire job as I was already in country. The flight 'home' was to Singapore. I assumed that this was part of the VISA process to cover their liability with immigration in case I over stayed after contract.
Just my admittedly naive experience. |

What's the cost of living in East Java? If my salary were 9 million, then how much could I reasonably save?

u are bringing your wife and daughter? INHO, it is not enough to live on, much less save any money. if your daughter is school age, you will be well into the red. |

Agreed. I budget for about double that with a family in Jakarta. The cost of living here beyond a few million/month extra for rent isn't that much more than anywhere else in Indonesia - East Java included |
