When we think we've seen it all, more things happen.

A large private school with the name "International" in its name with many branches in HCMC does not help teachers get a work permit. They also hired many that cannot get a work permit because of a lack of quals. Fair enough.

But now, they are insisting that we sign a contract that if we are caught teaching at this school without a work permit, we must pay the 5 million dong fine.

Some teachers have refused, one was sacked, and others are just signing the dotted line.

It'd be kind of nice to have the actual Vn document of the requirements (2010) that a teacher is supposed to meet in order to obtain a work permit. There seems to be quite a bit of disinformation circling about.

Still feel loved? It is going to get worse. Do you really think they care?

Years ago a teacher died at a "large" school and the school never even bought flowers. They don't care. We are a white face for marketing because the Vietnamese can do everything better. Just ask them.

Criteria for foreign labors in Vietnam:

- Age 18 and above.

- In good health, able to meet job�s physical requirements.

- Working as manager, managing director or expert. - Clean personal records and no criminal convictions.

- A work permit issued by authorized Vietnamese agencies.



Documents required to obtain work permit:

- Application form issued by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs (MoLISA)

- Resum� (Curriculum Vitae) form issued by the MoLISA

- Verification of no criminal record by native country, or if the applicant has resided in Vietnam for six months or more by Vietnamese agencies (Department of Justice) in the city or province where the applicant is a registered resident.

- Health certificate issued by qualified hospital (Cho Ray Hospital, Saigon Hospital, several international hospitals and others qualify).

- Copies of degrees and/or professional certificates. - Three passport photos.

*All documents written in English must be translated and notarized by authorized Vietnamese agencies (Notarization Office No. 1 or �Ph�ng c�ng chứng số 1� at 92 Nguyen Du Street, District 1)

**A criminal record check from a foreign country must be notarized by that country�s consulate or embassy in Vietnam



No work permit required:

- Working in Vietnam for less than three months. - Members or owners of limited companies.

- Members of joint stock companies� board of directors.

- Services promoters.

- Lawyers having work permits issued by Vietnam�s Ministry of Justice


In addition schools have their own requirements outside of these such as a notarized TEFL (varies from school to school)
