Hello all~ So usually how long does it take for the employer to get the certificate of eligibility after they have submitted it to the office? I have heard 1 month but have also read up to 3. Are there cases of it being quicker? Is this just fluff time just to cover the offices own butts if they did take a long time or can I expect it quick? Thanks in advance!

It depends on the time of year and any holidays surrounding the application. Average time is 4-8 weeks. If lucky, it could be shorter, of course, but if unlucky it could be longer.

When did your employer send the info to immigration?

A major factor is if your employer has already given you a location and exact (to close to exact) date of arrival. From what I have learned thus far, usually right after hiring you, they start the CoE process and then once they give you a date then they finish the rest of the process.
From my own personal experience, I received my CoE about 5 weeks after being given my date of arrival.

I can only assume your asking this because you were just offered a job. If so, then congratulations and I hope you have a nice experience and do well with your new position.

Searched for 1 year constantly applying and have been working in Korea in the mean time until i landed a job in Japan so I could go back Smile He filled out the COE today I believe so guessing he will hand it in Tuesday (I am guessing). So sorta wondering~ Cause gotta tell my current boss the time i will leave and also around when I can get plane ticket~ Hard to book in advance without having exact dates but its ok I guess cause I am super happy to finally land a job! I don't think they need a location to apply. Interac brings in lots of people as alternates in the spring. There were loads in my arrival group. They all arrived with their visas despite not having been assigned a placement. And I received my COE not more than a couple of weeks after receiving my location and even less after I received a definate arrival date, so they had to have put in my app long before these things were decided in order for me to have received my COE when I did.

You're right. They don't need the location to get the process started. But I think usually they dont start the process until they know for sure they are sending someone over. Im not saying this from personal experience or actually being told the total process. I just gathered this from hearing about others and their timeframe. Especially the large number of people who were offered jobs with Heart and then were told later that they overhired and were now on a waiting list. Since they hadn't given them a time or location as they were not sure if they would send them over to Japan, they didn't start the CoE process.

So I retract what I said before and here is an edit: They start the CoE process when they are competely sure that they are sending you to Japan and they have things such as proof of a BA and any other docs they require.
Nice catch though. My original reply was a little misleading.
