Hello all.
I've recently completed my BA(Open) with the Open University here in the UK. Before I begin my travels (teaching for one year in Vietnam and then one year in China) I need to be certain that the OU is on a list of accredited universities recognised by the Vietnamese authorities.
If such a list exists, how can I access it?
Do you know of anyone teaching English in Vietnam with a degree from the OU?
Your help is appreciated

If you want to teach in Vietnam or any country, why are you asking if your degree in the UK is accredited?
Yes, there is an Open University in HCMC. It is a Vietnamese University.
Your question (I believe) is about the accreditation of your degree from an "Open University" in the UK.
If you want to teach in VN, you need a degree from an accredited Uni, in a native speaking country. |

Of course your OU degree is 'acceptable'. It's a degree and worth no less than any other. The Vietnamese also have an OU and they respect the degrees earned there. Bring everything, get it all notairized and you'll have no problems. |

Thank you londo, thats exactly what I needed to hear. The motivation behind my question stems from looking through advertisements for jobs on this site. One or two have stated that online degrees are not acceptable. Although I do not class my degree as online (I spent every second week at tutorials and attended several summer schools) I can see how authorities who are not familiar with the concept of Open University would find it fairly easy to dismiss any qualifications obtained through the OU as online.
Thank you once again for your response...its appreciated.

For those who don't know, the OU is an august and reputable UK institution of some 50 years. It is the original distance -learning experiment that now has hundreds of thousands of students, mainly hard-working and mature people, around the world and has some great lecturers (if a little too 'left-wing' for some) and has nothing in common with some of the more 'fly-by-night' places found particularly in the USA. I did my MBA with the OU Business School and have never found it looked down upon by anyone of importance. Hold your head high Kiddo! |
