Hi I'm thinking of teaching in HCMC for the year. I would be only taking my 6 year old daughter. I have researched it but a lot has come up about human trafficking and child prostitution, wondering if it would be safe for us and in particular my daughter (who is mixed race white/Asian). We have been travelling through Asia before and she has attracted a lot of attention as she is mixed race which up to now has been flattering and safe, thanks. Anyone else taken their children? Smile

It is my belief that HCMC is safer than most people's home country. It is true that people that are "mixed" experience some issues "if" they are Viet. I know many, many "mixed" children and they due quite well.

Just make sure you send the child to an international school or so called international school. They will have many peers just like them.

I also agree, Saigon is safe.

But ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK in Cambodia!

What does that mean? Of course she will enter "at her own risk" as opposed to you being liable in some way. And what about Cambodia specifically?

I agree with everything above- HCMC is very safe as far as I'm aware, if its possible to make such a broad statement. The only crime I ever hear about is theft-from-a-motorbike (moving or parked), and the occasional house break-in in cases where people have very poor security, and live in poorer areas.

I'll not go into specific details at this point but I thought the parent might want to be "forewarned" that Cambodia is still basically the Wild Wild West of this part of Asia. I've got a little girl who'll be 4 yrs. old in July and a quite beautiful half Asian (VN) and I've been warned by most of my VN friends NOT to take my daughter there as there've been multiple reports of stolen, lost, or missing children there.

I love Cambodia but I've only gone with other guys - my wife won't even risk taking our daughter.

Believe it or not! it's up to you...
